Smile Makeover Options for Adults: Invisalign®

Invisalign® is an effective smile makeover option that involves a clear aligner system. It is a great option for adults who are considering a smile makeover, particularly those who have mild to moderate teeth alignment concerns. You can make an appropriate treatment decision by learning about Invisalign and how it works.

Invisalign® for an improved smile

Many dental professionals recommend Invisalign for orthodontic treatment as a part of a smile makeover plan. If you are interested in a smile makeover, then it is helpful to understand the pros and cons of Invisalign. This review offers insights into how Invisalign is defined, what the benefits are and what you can expect throughout the treatment process.

A review of Invisalign®

Invisalign is a popular brand of clear aligner treatment. The treatment utilizes Invisalign aligners, which are transparent plastic trays that are custom-fit and worn over teeth, gently pulling and pushing the teeth into the ideal alignment. They are a discreet method of treatment, meaning they are essentially invisible to others while they are being worn. They are also removable, although they should be worn between 20 and 22 hours (minimum) each day. Most dentists recommend them as part of a smile makeover option if the patient has a mild to moderate teeth or jaw misalignment.

The benefits of Invisalign®

Many patients prefer Invisalign due to the cosmetic benefits they offer during treatment. The aligners are essentially invisible, which means they are hard to notice while you are wearing them. They are also removable, so they are more convenient with fewer dietary restrictions and an easier time flossing and brushing. Also, treatment times are often faster than traditional dentures, and there is a reduced risk of teeth stains after treatment with proper oral care during treatment.

How the Invisalign® process works

The Invisalign process starts with a consultation visit to discuss treatment goals and all available treatment options. The dentist may recommend oral health treatment if there are issues such as cavities and gum disease before starting Invisalign. Once the patient is ready, custom Invisalign aligners are created in a laboratory and sent back to the dentist's office. Once it arrives, the patient can come back to the office and officially begin wearing the Invisalign aligners. New aligners are provided periodically until treatment is complete, which is typically between six months to two years.

The ideal Invisalign® candidate

Anyone who is not satisfied with the alignment of their teeth or jaw should consider Invisalign treatment. Treatment is typically most appropriate for mild to moderate misalignments. In general, older teenagers and adults who are worried about the appearance of their smile with braces prefer Invisalign due to the transparent nature of the aligners.
